What is Counselling?

How do I know if I need counselling?
If you're struggling with difficult emotions, experiencing changes in your sleep or appetite, having trouble concentrating, or feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges, it might be helpful to talk to a counselor. Even if you're not sure, a consultation can help you determine if counseling is right for you.
Is what I discuss in counselling kept private?
Yes, confidentiality is a crucial aspect of counseling. Counselors are legally and ethically bound to protect your privacy of their clients. There are very few exceptions to confidentiality, such as if you pose a danger to yourself or others. Your counselor will explain these limitations during your initial session.
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session will typically involve an intake process where the counselor will gather information about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and get to know the counselor.
How many sessions will I need?

Absolutely. Just like physical health, mental health is a vital component of overall well-being. Ignoring our mental health is like neglecting a part of our physical health. Regularly checking in with ourselves and seeking support when needed is crucial for a balanced and healthy life.
Isn't it a sign of weakness to see a therapist?
Absolutely not! Seeking help is a sign of strength and self-awareness. It takes courage to acknowledge that you're struggling and to take steps to improve your well-being. It's an investment in yourself.
What sorts of issues can counselling address?
Counseling can be helpful for a wide spectrum of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression and mood disorders, relationship difficulties, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, addiction and substance abuse, self-esteem challenges, work-related stress, life transitions, and much more.
There's still a stigma around mental health. How can I overcome any feelings of shame or embarrassment about seeking help?
Stigma is often based on misinformation and fear. Remember that seeking help for your mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness. It takes courage to prioritize your well-being. Focus on the benefits of getting support and remind yourself that you deserve to feel your best. What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that uses hypnosis to access the subconscious mind for positive change. It is not mind control or a magic fix; rather, it requires the client’s willingness and commitment to change. Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness where beneficial suggestions are given directly to the unconscious mind. Importantly, clients remain aware and in control throughout the process. Around 85% of people respond well to clinical hypnotherapy, which is recognized in medical settings as a complementary therapy.
